message from TMRA (Texas Motorcycle Roadriders Assoc.)
Hello, I'm sure most of you know me, so I won't introduce myself. Because this isn't about me, and it isn't about you, it's about us and the way we are being ignored by the very organization, and it's leaders that our taxes go to support. The "Share the Road" idea is not complicated. We don't want signs up every quarter mile, especially when we're trying to help defray the erection costs by getting sponsors for them. All we are asking is for a fair shake. If you can erect signs for bicycles, cows, ducks, horses, and peacocks, then you can do the same for bikers. I need your help in getting this done.
They are so entrenched in their thinking that this cannot be accomplished by one club or group.
It will take all of us working together to be successful. We need your help in getting it done. If we
get enough of a momentum going they will have to listen. If you are trying to get the signs in your community and need some info, or if I can be of help in some way, please let me know. My email is: dupriest@flash.net and phone is: (830) 510-6252. Thanks for all you've done and will do.
-Gary DuPriest
On the TMRA website, they call Share the Raod sign "Signs for Life"...
The cost of both signs together is $100. The pole & installation of each sign are extra due to different City, County & state requirements. So far, the 9 cities with signs installed have paid for their own signs.
Bikers 4 Right of Way...
Right of way is something you GIVE, not take
The site below was put together by Sons of Liberty Riders.
Many ROW newspaper articles are posted here - by state.
You can go here to get news articles from your area to use with your presentation
at your City Council meeting to request Share the Road signs.
To find Texas listings, click on the link below, scroll down and hit the
"Enter here" button, then look for the topic on the forum that says "States"
... from there you can find Texas articles dating back to Oct 2004.
We thank SOLR for creating this forum and we also thank Gypsy of Biker Bits News

messages & info from other states ...
Sons of Liberty Riders have a Share the Road page that shows billboards from WV & SC,
also another kind of highway sign from NC... very similar to our Texas signs
We're doing something similar here. All MMA members have been requested to post them as
lawn signs, I have one in my window of my business, and friends are also asked to post them.
We have bumper stickers at the DMV and inserts that they put into registration renewals and license renewals once a year. It's important to educate the non-riding public about motorcycles, that alone will do more than any helmet law! -Gypsy
an awesome Motorcycle Safety page ...
We decided that there needed to be a central place for motorcycle safety information,
to include logos, billboards, bumper stickers, lawn signs, and much more, etc.
It is our hope that all MRO's will utilize the information and incorporate it into the
Motorcycle Safety Campaigns. -Betsy and Trish, the News Gypsies. (Biker Bits)
IMPORTANT : the first thing you should know is that these signs cannot be installed on any state highway unless they are installed in the immediate vicinity of a place where motorcycles frequently enter/exit on a regular basis (bike shop, biker bar, clubhouse)
If you know of any city not listed here where these signs exist...
or where a presentation has been done & signs were approved but have not yet been installed due to lack of funding, please let us know.
about "the Power of One' ... we received this letter (below) concerning the work that's being done here by many riders across Texas.. ya'l can be very proud because you'r not only making a difference for riders here in Texas.
Outstanding work ya'l ~Bttrfly
I am not a Texan but I wanted to let you know that your website is very helpful and inspirational. I am an individual (not affiliated with an MRO) who has been searching for a way to contribute to the effort of educating drivers. Your efforts and your site show that you don't have to be part of
a large organization to make difference.. I am adopting a personal safety program called "The Power of One" referring to the fact that each of us have the power to contribute to the campaign for motorcycle awareness.
It is a fledgling effort, still pecking my way through the shell so I can learn to fly. You can see what I have so far at http://www.oldguy.us/tpo/.
I have linked to your site and others. Thanks for breaking a trail and sharing what you are doing so that others can follow.

message from TMRA re: Ice on Bridge Sign decals
TxDOT has struck an important partnership with the Texas Motorcycle Roadriders Association (TMRA) for this effort. The partnership’s first effort was to post “Watch for Motorcycle” sign decals using new artwork developed by TxDOT and agreed upon by TMRA. The signs appear on the backs on “Ice on Bridge” sign decals (see below). We produced 5,000 decals that have been distributed to San Antonio District that received 125 and the Austin District that received 1,000. We have 3,875 on hand decals on hand. Requests for sign decals can be emailed to rgruber@sherrymatthews.com and CC me tmendez@dot.state.tx.us
